Thank you to everyone who participated in our Fall Fun Fest! The event was quite a success, and we'd like to thank the following people!
We were so happy to see fantastic weather, that the kids had a great time, and that the parents were happy too! We'd also like to thank everyone who took the time to answer our survey, and for your efforts, you were entered into a draw to win a $100 gift certificate from John's Nursery! And the lucky winner is: GILLIAN REES !!!!!!! Congratulations Gillian! Again, thanks everyone for coming out to this event! Your support of our neighbourhood is greatly appreciated!
| 2nd Annual Clair Hills Classic | |||||
|
The 2nd Annual Clair Hills Classic was a tremendous success! The weather was beautiful, the prizes were plentiful and dinner was superb. Our thanks go out to all 9 teams for participating. We really appreciate your sense of community and support of our neighbourhood and its events. We raised $531.06 for the playground fund!
Upon arrival, every player was given a bottle of water and a bag of tees. The golf carts were identified with players' names, and each team was given a rules sheet and a prize list. At the end of 18 holes of golf, we held a putting contest that saw some friendly business competition. While the folks at BMO Bank of Montreal spent lots of money trying to win the putting contest, in the end it was a gentleman from the Royal Bank who took the prize!
Every player in the tournament walked away with a prize, but in addition to the prize table, some lucky golfers scored for their extra hard work on the golf course:
Thanks so much to Ed and Georgina Wrobel and Larry Gillis for volunteering with registration and the putting contest. Thanks to all of our sponsors who so graciously donated prizes for the tournament. And thanks to Foxwood Golf Course for hosting such a fun event! A special thanks to our neighbourhood businesses, BMO Bank of Montreal, Royal Bank and Erb and Erb Insurance for participating. We are so grateful to you and your committment to our neighbourhood. On behalf of the Clair Hills Neighbourhood Association Board of Directors, we thank everyone who attended the event and we look forward to next year's tournament!

Another success! Approximately 65 bags of garbage were collected, as well as some larger items, including a massive tarp!
Thank you so much to everybody who participated in the Clean-Up this weekend. Despite the rain, we had approximately 50 people come out to help. I feel so proud to live in such a beautiful neighbourhood, and with your help, we can keep it clean all year round. In honour of Earth Week, John's nursery was kind enough to donate to our event, for the second year in a row, and the winner of a beautiful black cherry tree, is Cathy Black! Other winners include: Herb Demorest: a great travel mug

| Clair Hills 1st Annual Summer Streetfest | |||||
|
Sept.15th was our second attempt at hosting the First Annual Streetfest, and what a fantastic day it turned out to be! The weather was great, albeit a little cold and a little windy, and everybody had a wonderful time.
The event kicked off with the appearance of our favorite clowns Dodi and Bobi. Armed with face paint and balloon animals, they were a great addition to the festivities. Our thanks to Clair Hills resident Janet Hunter, for having her parents Doreen and Bob Stokes come all the way out from Beamsville to dole out some fun for the kids. Things heated up when firemen from the Waterloo Fire Department showed up in the big truck and kept the kids totally in awe for approximately an hour. The kids had so much fun talking with the firemen, sitting with them in, and sometimes on, the truck, and seeing the lights and the siren blast as the truck left was very exciting. Our thanks to the firemen who took the time to visit with us; it was much appreciated by all! And they’re off! The races were next and how hilarious did everybody who participated look?! We had 3 races: the 3-legged race, wheelbarrow race, and the egg race. Each race had participants categorized by age and what a great time! Lesson learned? Next year have the egg race on the pavement so the eggs will actually break when they drop! Congratulations to all the winners who received medals for their hard work and determination at hitting that finish line without knocking over the linesman, Larry Gillis! The longest event would have been the water balloon toss. The sun came out at just the right time so that when Lisa Norley’s water balloon broke over her face, she wasn’t too chilly at all. Most impressive in this event was Sean Norley and his daughter Melissa; they were at least 18 paces apart when their water balloon broke. What a great event!! And through it all we had Jason Vaid, our Treasurer, working tirelessly at the BBQ making sure everyone had enough to eat. Thanks Jason, for taking care of feeding the masses! Special thanks go out to Justin Young of Canadian Tire, for providing us with rope for the tug of war contest! Special thanks go out to Lee Kors and Rick Bolzon, our friends at the Bank of Montreal, for providing the troops with free ice cream and prizes for all the kids. We really appreciate your support! Thanks to our friends George Galea and Marietta Gassewitz of Neighbourhood Watch, Sara Geidlinger of Geidlinger Photography, Dianna Douglas of Salsa Babies and Carrie Chappell of Bug Lady Crafts for setting up display tables. It was so nice to see community businesses being showcased at our event. And lastly, thanks to all the folks of Clair Hills who braved the chilly weather to spend the day with us. We look forward to an even bigger and better Summer Streetfest next year!

| On Sunday, July 8th we hosted the first annual Clair Hills Classic, and what a
fanastic event! We had 8 teams ( 31 players ) participate in the tournament and despite the hot weather, a great time was
had by all. Many thanks to the following people for coming out to golf:

Everybody who played in the tournament took home a wonderful prize, and some players were lucky enough, or just really good golfers, to win some additional prizes. Winners were as follows:

At the end of the day, this really fun event raised an impressive $665.79 for our Playground Fund! Many thanks to Foxwood Golf Course for their hospitality and putting on a perfect steak dinner. What a fantastic show of support! Approximately 50 adults and
20 kids participated in this event. We met at the top of
Columbia Drive and kicked off the event with a series of draws
for some great prizes! Stacey Hammond won a $35 gift certificate
from John's Nursery. There were also six lucky winners of Tim
Hortons travel mugs and four lucky people won Community
Clean-up T-shirts. After the draw, the volunteers divided into
teams and worked together to clean up our entire neighbourhood.
According to the City of Waterloo, the number of volunteers
has doubled this year...isn't it great that we were a part of
that? At the end of the event we collected 100 bags of
garbage. In addition to the bags, we collected 3 tractor tires,
some wood skids and metal rods, hundreds of newspaper
flyers, and giant pieces of foam. Garbage we couldn't collect
included hundreds of yards of wire fencing and a huge
metal culvert-type pipe. All this information was recorded and
the City made arrangements to dispose of these items. Special thanks to our sponsors Tim Horton's and Pitch-In Canada for providing us with garbage bags, gloves, prizes and snacks; Sobey's (Columbia Dr.) for providing the bottled water and John's Nursery for donating the gift certificate for our draw. 100 bags of garbage. The dumping of garbage in our wooded areas and ponds is unacceptable and has to stop. We all live here and must take responsibility for our own actions. Please, dispose of garbage properly. Store it in your garage until garbage collection day. Tie down your recyclables so they don't blow away on windy days. If you take beverages or snacks with you on a walk then take a bag too so you can properly dispose of the garbage when you get home. Don't throw things out your car window as you're driving through the city. And don't take your garbage to construction sites in the hope that the builder will take it away.
